Avenue Q popularized the psychology term schadenfreude: the human tendency to derive pleasure from the pain of others. Simply put--"I'm glad I'm not that guy." What is going on in our hearts when we feel this way, and how is it related to Jesus' teachings on judgment and grace? How can we learn to have empathy for others that is genuine, instead of secret gloating or forced sympathy?
